Estelle E. Broome, born June 13, 1917 in the Hazel Creek Community of NC, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Shannondale of Maryville. When this area was covered by Fontana, her family moved to Bryson City. She spent the rest of her life in Blount County--most of it in the Forest Hill community where she was a devoted member at Forest Hill Baptist Church. Estelle was a loving, caring, and sweet caregiver as mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Hers was truly a life of service to others. Preceded in death by: husband of over 50 years, John L. Broome who was past President of the Local Steelworkers Union 309 and Union Representative for the United Steelworkers; parents Elbert & Bertha Lequire; sisters & spouses, Hazel & Lloyd Chambers, Nora & Carroll Wiggins, and Vesta Lequire; and brothers & spouses, Willie Lequire and Edgar & Betty Lequire. She leaves behind: sons & spouses, Dwight & Patsy and David & Barbara Broome; brother & spouse, Vester & Essie Lequire; grandchildren & spouses, Pam & Randy Shofner, Teresa & Billy Smith, Deborah & Randy Garland and Steve Broome & Heather; great-grandchildren, Bonnie Shofner, Ethan Garland, Will Smith and Hayden Mitchel Austin; many nieces and nephews, and special friends H.S. Myers, Edna Best, Romaine Yates and Louise Rainwater; special friend and caregiver, Shirley Irwin; friend & pastor, Gary Thomas. Special thanks to the staff and doctors at Shannondale of Maryville and Morningview. Funeral service will be at 7:00 PM, Friday, January 23, 2015 at Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Gary Thomas officiating. Family and friends will assemble for interment at 12:30 PM, Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
