Errol Joseph Giblin

February 4, 1941 — April 15, 2024

Maryville

Errol Joseph Giblin, age 83, passed away on April 15, 2024. He was born in New Aberia, Louisiana on February 4, 1941 to Gerald and Lowny (Armentor) Giblin. He is preceded in passing by his parents; brother, Ronald; and sister Katherine (Katie). After high school Errol enlisted in the US Navy in 1959 for four years and went on to graduate from the University of Houston in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He entered the workforce in the oil and gas industry as a Geology Technician for Humble Oil/Exxon. His primary career was a Safety Consultant and Analyst for Texas Eastern in Houston. In early years and into his 70’s, Errol had a passion for hiking. After retirement he made his home in Maryville, TN near the beautiful Smoky Mountains. He found like-minded friends who also enjoyed hiking, good conversation and fellowship. Errol was well-read and always had a sizable collection of his favorite good books. His appreciation for art, music and concerts led him to meet and eventually marry the love of his life, Joan on November 11, 2011. As a couple they were frequently seen walking hand in hand wherever they went. They enjoyed their many trips to the beaches and small towns from Georgia to Florida to Alabama over the years. When out to dinner Errol enjoyed a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon and could be recognized as the very DAPPER dresser, wearing a Tommy Bahama shirt. He was soft-spoken but had an infectious Louisiana sense of humor. Errol was still a private, spiritual person who treasured quiet time and conversation with his loved ones. He was a generous person and would not hesitate to help those in need. He is survived by his wife, Joan of 12 years; daughter, Jennifer Walker (Charles); stepdaughters, Dianna Lockwood (Jason), Christina Brown; eight grandchildren and extended family in Pennsylvania, Texas, and Louisiana who will miss him greatly. Memorialization will be private. In lieu of monetary contributions in his memory, Errol would encourage you to be a good person, treat one another with understanding and be grateful for each day… As he liked to say, “I am blessed.”
