Carnes, Ernest "Stormy" age 96, of Townsend, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Maryville Transitional Care Center. He was of the Baptist faith and saved as a young man. Ernest worked at Alcoa for thirty-eight years and was a farmer. He worked for the C.C.C.'s as a young man. Ernest was an athlete in football and baseball at Townsend High School. He kicked the first football in the 1920's for Townsend. He liked the outdoors and fishing, camping, and horse-back riding. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Myers Carnes, father and mother, Rev. L. S. and Louisa Helton Carnes; brothers, Albert, Arlie, Dewey, and McIlvaine Carnes; sisters, Edna Fox, Addie Davis, and Mayme Kathleen Carey. Survivors include: son, Dale Eugene Carnes; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Charles Ledbetter; grandchildren, Teresa and Joel Loy, Ricky Dale and Anna Ledbetter; great grandchildren, Angela, Monica, and Sondra and husbands, five great-great grandchildren, Caden, Kaylee, Nathan, Taylor, and Halle; many special loved Carnes' and Myers' nieces, nephews, and cousins, Kate Carnes Headrick, Charles Carnes and other Carnes-Helton relatives. The family would like to thank Blount Memorial Hospital and Transitional Care Center and Dr. Scott Gardner for all their kindness,. Many thanks to all the family and friends who have helped us. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2006, at 2:00 P.M. at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Steven Linginfelter officiating. The interment will follow at Bethel Baptist Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 132 Bethel Church Road, Townsend, TN 37882.
