Emmett Fred Bailey

May 22, 1946 — April 20, 2023

Friendsville

Mr. Emmett Fred Bailey of Friendsville, TN departed this earthly life on April 20th, 2023 at the age of 76. Emmett was born May 22nd, 1946 to Morgan Julius ‘Doc’ Bailey and Mary McCay Bailey. He is preceded in death by his parents along with his siblings George Bailey, Grover (Jo Ann) Bailey, Frances (Bill) Trent, Dennis Bailey, Jackie Bill Bailey. Emmett grew up in Tazewell, TN along with 9 brothers and sisters including his twin brother Everett. Emmett confessed faith at Howard’s Quarter Baptist Church and was baptized in Clinch River. He attended Claiborne County High School. He is a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War where he served on the USS Roosevelt, which took him three-quarters around the world. Emmett completed the apprentice building trades and carpenter program in Flint, Michigan and then started, along with J.L. Goins, the building trades program at Porter High School in Blount County; he was respected and admired by many students he taught. He was the proud owner of E. F. Bailey and Son Builders Construction Company for 43 years and was past President of Maryville-Alcoa Home Builders Association. Emmett also owned the Cellar Bar in Alcoa for 20+ years. If you had the pleasure of knowing Emmett, you already know his passion for home building, remodeling, fishing, golf, politics, Nascar, watching or playing sports with friends, and Big Orange football. Emmett had a booming laugh that came from the belly and exuded through every inch of his 6’4” stature as he would slap his knee or whoever was nearby! He was an amazing husband, father, and friend who would quite literally give you the last dollar in his pocket. His knowledge of carpentry and building homes was mind blowing and ever so detailed; he would never take shortcuts. His wife, Shannon, often stated it was near impossible to drive down the road with him for his carpenter’s eye would regularly lead them to turn around, go back, and look at a build he was critiquing. What a life our sweet Emmett has lived! He left no stone unturned and will be missed by his family in a way that cannot be put into words, but knowing he is in the presence of GOD is our comfort. He is survived by his devoted wife and love of 33 years Shannon Overly Bailey; his four children Emmetta Bailey Everett, Michael Bailey, Brayden Bailey, Morgan Brieanna Bailey; his two grandchildren Garrett and Graham Everett, and their father/his friend Tim Everett; siblings Lynn (Sue) Bailey, Everett (Mary Kay) Bailey, Jane (Robert) Winstead, Mary Bailey Pratt; so many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Receiving of Friends will be Friday, May 5th from 5:00pm – 7:00pm at Smith Funeral Home in the Trinity Chapel Maryville, TN. Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 6th 11:00am at the Bailey Cemetery in Tazewell, TN. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithFuneralandCremation.com.
