Emma Jean (Tipton) Whitehead - age 86 of Farragut, TN passed away on January 30, 2015. Emma Jean was born September 5, 1928 in Sevier County, TN where during her childhood she was a member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church. In the early 1940's she moved with her family to Maryville, TN where she managed McCulloch's Jewelers. In 1951, she married Charles Whitehead, of Maryville, and moved with him to Nashville, TN where they resided for over forty years. They were members of First Presbyterian Church. Before becoming a full-time mother, Emma Jean worked at Super Service Trucking Company. Emma Jean was known for her good cooking, entertaining and volunteerism. She served as Brownie leader and Girl Scout leader at Oak Hill School and as a volunteer at Brentwood Academy. On Thanksgivings she would anonymously provide meals to the homeless in downtown Nashville, and she enjoyed donating regularly to various charities. In 1992 Emma Jean and Charles retired to Farragut. They were members of First Farragut United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, Charles C. Whitehead; by her parents, James Floyd and Lillie Tipton, and sister, Ruth Tipton, all of Maryville. She is survived by her daughter Pamela Jean Whitehead Dishongh of Farragut, formerly of Nashville, TN; Tucson, AZ; County Kildare, Republic of Ireland; and Portland, OR. She is also survived by her sister Verna Tipton of Farragut and her grandchildren, Katherine and Isaac Dishongh of Oregon.
