Elbert D. (Don) Jones, age 78 of Maryville passed away peacefully at home Saturday, Nov. 9th. Don was a loving husband. He was an Army veteran and served in Vietnam in 1968 during the Tet offensive. He was a victim of Agent Orange. Don completed Industrial Trade School and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. He taught Industrial Education at Cairo High School in Georgia. He retired from TVA. He was a member of Madison Ave. Baptist Church. Don was a member of the Foothill's Camera Club and enjoyed many trips they took together and enjoyed taking photos of a lot of wonderful places. Infrared photography held the most interest for him. He loved traveling around the states but loved his trips abroad, especially to Australia. He was by nature an artist in several mediums. He also loved deer hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha Lay Jones, sister, Norma Lay, brothers, A.C. Lay, Bob Lay, Junior Jones and step-sister, Ethel Newcomb. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Brenda Cook Jones, sisters, Judie Elliott of Knoxville, Peggy Fine of Cincinnati, Ohio, sisters-in-law, Shirley Lay of Spartanburg, SC, Maryann Jones of Luttrell, Donna Hendricks (Mark) of Maryville, and Connie Atkins of Knoxville. He had many nieces and nephews. Don had lots of dear friends. As per his wishes, he was cremated. A celebration of life will be held in the activities building of Madison Avenue Baptist Church on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. with Bob Nuchols giving the eulogy at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers his wish was for donations to be made to: special needs organizations, Lion's Club, or a VA charity of your choice, as these were close to his heart.
