Edith Lorene Head Watson was born August 7, 1933, and passed peacefully in her sleep on January 18 at National Health Care (NHC) facility in Murfreesboro, TN. She is preceded in death by her husband Roscoe E. Watson, her parents Henry Lester Head and Agnes Hazel McNeilly Head, her brother and his wife James L. (Betty) Head, and nephew Mike Head. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Dr. K Watson (Chris) Harris; step-grandchildren and their wives Chris Jr. (Renee) Harris and Andrew (Amanda) Harris and great grand-children Caelex and Zoey Harris; nephew and wife Jim (Pam) Head; and grand-niece Mona Samson and grand-nephews Joe and Scott Head.
Lorene lived in Maryville, TN most of her life, and in Madisonville where she met her husband of 57 years. She sang with the choir at First Baptist Church in Madisonville and attended Hiwassee College where she traveled with the college choir as a soprano. She played piano and organ, and loved to crochet, sew, landscape her yard, and visit the mountains. She retired from J. C. Penney to take care of her mother.
After her mother’s death, Lorene and Ros moved to Murfreesboro in 2004 to be close to their daughter. They attended Calvary Baptist Church although they remained members of Broadway Baptist Church in Maryville. After Ros died in 2010, Lorene attended First Baptist Church in Murfreesboro. In the years that followed his death, she lived either next door or with her daughter and son-in-law. Twice a year, Lorene and her daughter visited East Tennessee to place flowers on family graves, visit with relatives, and go to the mountains. In 2023, she moved to care facilities. Many thanks to the staffs of The Rutherford, Adams Place, NHC, and Caris Healthcare Hospice for their support and assistance.
A receiving of family and friends is scheduled for 10:00 to noon on Saturday, January 25 at Smith’s Funeral & Cremation Service followed by a private burial at Grandview Cemetery in Maryville.
