Edith Lois Hurst Newport, passed into the arms of Jesus at 9:30 am on Sunday, May 15, 2016, For the past 7 years she has fought a long, hard battle with Pulmonary Hypertension and Polycythemia Vera. Loved ones who preceded her in death are her husband, Edd Newport, and her parents, Rev. Elmer Hurst and Margie P. Lawson Hurst. Loving family who are mourning her passing are: sister, Mary L. Walker, Maryville; brother and sister-in-law, John and Judy Hurst, Louisville; nieces Stacy L. Hubbard and husband Tim, Friendsville, and Wendy J. Pittman and husband Kyle, Seymour; nephew Travers C. Hurst and wife Monica. Also her three special great nephews: Tyler Hill, Caleb Hubbard, and Weston Hubbard; and her four special great nieces: Jenna L. Pittman, Sarah Beth Pittman, Abby C. Hurst, and Emmaline K. Hurst. She also leaves special family members in Tennessee and North Carolina and a host of friends. A very special thanks go to her doctor, Dr. John Swisher, and his special staff of ladies at Statcare Pulmonary Group who have given Edith their love and special care. Edith was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church, Alcoa and formerly a member of Riverside Baptist Church, Harriman. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm on Friday May 20, 2016 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Funeral and Cremation Service. Family and friends will assemble at 3:00 pm at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery for the graveside service and interment with Rev. Greg Kelly and Rev. Chad Ramsey officiating.
