Dr. Joseph "Joe" E. Hill

Dr. Joseph “Joe” E. Hill, age 81 of Knoxville, TN went home to be with his Lord and Savior on (September 3, 2022), at Asbury Assisted Living. He lived a full and happy life characterized by fulfilling work as a teacher and administrator, taking many trips, and sharing many happy memories with his grandsons and grand-dog. Joe was an avid golfer and Georgia Bulldog Fan.

Joe was a 1958 graduate of Fulton High School, a 1965 graduate of ETSU, as well as a 1977 graduate from The University of Tennessee where he earned his Masters and Doctoral degrees. Joe started out teaching locally at Friendsville and Maryville High School.  Following his education, Joe went on to teach at the University of Georgia from 1977-1984 and later he became the President of Lanier Technical College for 17 years spanning from 1984-2001.

Joe was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed. Preceded in death by his parents, T.M. and Clara Mae Hill of Knoxville, TN; and brother J.R. Hill.  Joe is survived by loving daughter, Merri Kristi Hill Barber and son-in-law, Ken; and grandsons, Bryce and Blaine Barber; sister, Mearlene Hill Hice and brother-in-law, Joel; brother, Jim Hill and sister-in-law, Pam; sister, Linda Pittman; sister-in-law, Rebecca Hill; Special mention to his Asbury nurses Gail, Franca, Misty, Summer, JoAnne, Alexis, and Jason.

Joe was a member of The First Baptist Church of Tellico Village. Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Smith Trinity Chapel. The Funeral Service will be at 12:00 PM with Dr. Charlie Bernard officiating. Entombment to follow at Grandview Mausoleum Chapel.
