Douglas Richard Hill

Douglas Richard Hill, 72, of Maryville Tennessee, passed away peacefully on September 20th, 2015, after a courageous painful battle with bladder cancer. He was born on July 8th, 1943 in South Dakota. He met his wife of 46 years, Dianne Hill, in Sioux City, Iowa in 1967 and later married on June 8th, 1969. Doug was a Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served his country for 34 years and retired as a Master Sargent. After retiring from the Air Force in 1995, Doug worked for Brimer Steel Erectors for 13 years. Doug and Dianne were faithful members of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and lived on Fort Loudon Lake for 15 years where he enjoyed boating and entertaining family and friends. He was active in the Knights of Columbus and was chairman of the Annual Golf Outing for 16 years. He enjoyed a variety of sports throughout his life including competitive softball where he pitched a perfect game, was an avid golfer with 2 holes-in-one, was a bowler with one 300 game, and experienced 2 perfect cribbage hands. He is survived by his wife Dianne, two sons, Gregory (Tracy) and Lucas (Margaret), and 8 grand-children, Austin, Morgan, Thomas, Lauren, Shanna, Jazmin, Claire and Owen. A Mass celebrating his life will be held at Our Lady of Fatima on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, online at www.woundedwarriorproject.org/Donate, or by mail Wounded Warrior Project, National Processing Center, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Smith Trinity Chapel with military honors following at 8:00 pm.
