Dorothy J. Maples Garner

Dorothy J. Maples Garner, age 101, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Saturday, November 18, 2023.  Dorothy was a member of East Maryville Baptist Church and enjoyed playing weekly pinochle card games with her sons.  She was an avid bowler, a true Tennessee sports fan and Cincinnati Reds baseball fan.  She enjoyed traveling as well as spending time at home with her lovable West Highland Terrier companion “Radar”. Preceded in death by:  husband, Eugene Garner; brothers, James Maples and Robert Maples; granddaughter, Emily Garner.  Survived by three sons, Jim Garner (Judy), Johnny Garner (Barbara), David Garner (Cheryl); nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.  The family would like to give special thanks to UT Hospice for their exceptional care.  Friends may drop by the funeral home from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, Wednesday, November 22, 2023 to pay their respects and sign the register book.  Family and friends will assemble for graveside service and interment at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 24, 2023 at Grandview Cemetery with Pastor Keith Johnson officiating.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to:  Tunnel to Towers that support veterans.  Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithFuneralandCremation.com.
