Dorothe (Dee) Lidvall

December 30, 1926 — March 26, 2013

Dorothe (Dee) Lidvall passed away peacefully with her family Tuesday, March 26th, at Shannondale Health Center in Maryville, TN. Dee was born December 30, 1926 in Chicago, IL, the first of two children of Walter and Adeline Hausmann. She grew up in Joliet, IL and after graduating from Joliet Township High School, attended and graduated from Iowa State University where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority. It was while attending Iowa State that Dee met Ed Robert Lidvall, the love of her life. They were married in Estero Island, FL, in 1950 and subsequently moved to Blount County. Ed was a University of Tennessee faculty member until retirement in 1988, and left this life Dec. 26th, 2010. The Blount County years brought them three sons and three wonderful daughters-in-law. Ned married to Melody Arnold, Van to Janet Rolen, and Dale to Cindy Gibbs. Most importantly to her, Dee is also survived by her 5 adoring grandchildren, Carly, Kristin, Eric, Patrick, and Ned Gabriel. Dee was very actively involved in Alcoa and Blount County civic and social activities – including church, educational, historical, and horticultural work. Most recently, she promoted and dedicated a Blue Star Memorial in Springbrook Park as a tribute to the U.S. Armed Forces. Dee was a proud member of Alcoa First United Methodist Church. Per her request, funeral services will not be held – but rather Dee's memory should be celebrated individually by the countless friends and family whose lives she meaningfully touched. If desired, memorial remembrance donations can be made to the following institutions: Alcoa First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 617 Gilbert St., Alcoa, TN 37701 or Blount County Historical Museum, 1006 East Lamar Alexander Pkwy., Maryville, TN 37804. On behalf of Dee, the family thanks you for your generosity and for adding so meaningfully to Dee's life. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithMaryville.com.
