Doris Fontella Murr

Doris Fontella Killian Murr, of Maryville, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, December 8, 2024, having been surrounded by her family. She was born to Ernest and Emily Elizabeth Bowman Killian on July 22, 1936 in Union County, TN. She attended and graduated from Everett High School and Knoxville Business College. She married Howard Murr on Dec. 16, 1955. Born to them was Floyd Jeffrey on Oct. 6, 1959 in Beaufort, SC, and Kimberly Jan on Dec. 25, 1961. Mrs. Murr worked for the Department of Agriculture (ASCS/USDA) for 30 years, retiring in 1993 to take on her most cherished role as Nana. A beloved mother, Nana, and friend to all, Mrs. Murr will be remembered for her unwavering faith, welcoming hospitality, sense of humor and zest for life. She was a member of East Maryville Baptist Church, loved her Sunday School class and her Christian faith was certainly evident in the way she lived her life. She loved reading, music, fashion and had a special talent for decorating homes and gardens. Mrs. Murr was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Remaining to cherish her memory are her children, son Jeff Murr and wife Julie, daughter Jan Bell and husband Mike; grandchildren Amanda Murr (Ben Rogers), Emily Blanton (Rob), Brandon Burgess (Courtney) and Katie Berrong (Chad); great-grandchildren Camden Lynn & Harris King Berrong and Liv Blake Burgess. Mrs. Murr is also survived by her sister Charlotte Killian England and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, from 5:00 until 7:00PM in the Smith Trinity Chapel with funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Mike Killian officiating. Family and friends will assemble for an interment service at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Grandview Cemetery followed by a celebration of Doris’s life at the Life Event Center.
