Donald LaRue Pierce, affectionately known as our “Big Fish", passed away on November 23, 2024, in Maryville, Tennessee, at the age of 73. Born on October 14, 1951 in Cobleskill, New York, Don grew up in Grand Gorge, where his love for adventure and the outdoors first took root.
Don attended & graduated grade school at Grand Gorge Central and completed his education at Delhi Technological University in New York, launching a career that spanned civil engineering and entrepreneurship. In 1981, Don moved to Blount County, TN where he served as a civil engineer for Lockhead Martin at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Rust Engineering & Alcoa Aluminum Company and later pursued his passions for antiques and BBQ as the proud owner of The Country Barn and Jacqueś Char Chic, beloved local businesses in Blount County.
Don was a man of many talents and passions— an avid fisherman, skilled hunter, adventurous chef, and storyteller who never met a stranger. His love of life, laughter, and connection left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
Don leaves behind his loving wife, Deborah Pierce; his daughter, Callie Bladow, and son-in-law, David Bladow; stepchildren, Kristen Graham McMillin and Josh Graham; granddaughter, Sydney Bladow; step-granddaughter, Abbey Newman, and Belle and Broady McMillin. He is also survived by his sister, Dawn Naso, and brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Naso.
Don was a member of RIO South Church in Blount County and previously at Our Lady of Fatima in Alcoa. Don’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. Don’s life was a celebration of love, family, and adventure, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
