Donald (Don) Clare Jacobs, 83, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on December 27, 2013. Don was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 1, 1930. He graduated from Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania and continued on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey. He served in the military during the Korean War in Germany. Don was married to Barbara Anne Smith on September 4, 1987; they were married 26 years. Don worked as a Sales Engineer for ALCOA Aluminum for 30 years. Following his retirement from ALCOA, he served as owner and CEO of Houlton Enterprises, a family business he established in the early 1980s. He enjoyed UT Football, Maryville High School Football, cruising, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also actively involved in church activities. He will be remembered for his inventive mind, his loving spirit, his generous nature, and his undeniable sense of humor. Don is survived by Wife, Barbara Anne Jacobs; children Kimberly Ann Bundy (Bill), Barbara Gale Tyler (Terry), Steven Craig Jacobs, Susan Leigh Proaps (Jonathan), Clare Elizabeth Dannenberg (David), Julia Smith Klein (Kenneth) and Kevin Aston Smith; grandchildren William Fredrick Bundy, Miller Houlton Bundy, Elizabeth Jennings Bundy, Samantha Nicole Tyler, Jacqueline Jacobs, Mattie Leigh Proaps, Jonathan Robert Proaps, Houlton Alexander Dannenberg, Isabella Mercedes Dannenberg, Samuel Jacobs Dannenberg, Ashley Klein Bobadilla (Rene), Lindsay Klein Curtis (Stevan), Ethan Jordan Smith, Preston Daniel Matthews, Jacob Thomas Smith, Laura Nicole Smith, Ryan Aston Smith, Yana Katherine Smith and Jessica Guojing Smith; great grandchildren Bailey Christine Tyler, Brooks Taylor Curtis, Rowan Harper Curtis and Kaiden Whitaker Bobadilla. Don is preceded in death by Jacqueline Jean Jacobs (his wife), Roy W. Jacobs (father), and Dorothy Jacobs Kirkwood (mother). Visitation will be held at 1:00 PM on December 31, 2013 in the Smith Chapel immediately followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Dr. Doug Sager will be officiating.
