Don Merritt Compton

Don M. Compton age 78 of Townsend passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015. He retired at the age of 49 from Caterpillar Tractor in Indianapolis, IN, with 30 years of service. After his retirement Don moved home to Townsend where he enjoyed sitting on the front porch, walking and riding his bike. Don loved the mountains, people, and laughing. He was known as a storyteller and a giver of nick names. Preceded in death by his: mother, Louise Compton; brothers, Bill & Larry Compton and Rex Johnson; sisters, Velma & Octavia. Survivors include: Wife of 58 years, Jean Compton; Daughters, Judy Compton, Bonnie Compton, Helen Wirey, Robbin Brown, Patricia Clark, and Terena Compton; 16 Grandchildren; 23 Great-Grandchildren; Brothers, Ronnie Compton, David Compton, and Ray Compton; Sister, Gerry Smith and Faye Huskey; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Smith Trinity Chapel. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
