Delores Jean Stanley Thomas, age 83, formerly of Maryville, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Ruston Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ruston, LA. Mrs. Thomas was a native of rural West Virginia with prior residence in Luling, Louisiana. She moved to Maryville in 1997 with her husband, Richard. While living in Maryville, she was a member of Smokey View Baptist Church. Delores loved singing in the choir. She was an active member of the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Delores and Richard spent many days exploring the Smokey Mountains. Delores was an expert home economist, completing a degree in 1976 at Nicholls State University. She loved to cook and published her own cookbook, Epicurian Delights Mountains-Seashore in 1977. She worked as a substitute teacher for a period of time in St. Charles Parish Schools, and after completing her degree, she worked at Ethan Allen in Gretna, LA. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard, who passed away in 2011, whom she was married to for 56 years. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory Alan and Denise Tuberville Thomas of Ruston, LA and Jeffrey Ray and Donna Marie Thomas of Farmerville, LA; grandson and wife, Daniel Alan Thomas and Danielle Kristen Thomas and grandson Benjamin Ray Thomas, sister and brother-in-law Judy and Miles Horton, sisters-in-law Shinta Stanley and Barbara Thomas; many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive. A celebration of Delores' Life will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Mark Martin and Rev. Toby Downey officiating. The Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
