David M. Hipp

April 24, 1940 — September 28, 2008

David McDonald Hipp, Our Lord Jesus Christ's servant, has gone on to be with our maker. Born in Linden, Indiana in 1940, David was raised on the family farm until the age of 12. Soon after the family moved to Williston, FL and farmed until 1973. From 1973 until 1984, David owned and operated a family farm in Weston, GA where he and his wife raised their children. After a 29-year farming career, David and wife Pat moved to the Smokey Mountains where they most recently resided in Townsend, TN. During the final years of his life, David worked for Ritchie Tractor in Maryville, TN where he was a sales associate. During his long farming career David was involved in local politics and the American Agriculture strike movement. He was the son of the late Ralph and Lydia Hipp and was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph and Tim and one sister, Barbara. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patricia, and three children, Tommy, Laura and Bryan, four grandchildren, Erin, Cody, Tristan, and Taylor, and one brother, John. Rarely has there been a personality so outgoing or a heart so giving. David Hipp profoundly touched people and in the process truly changed lives. Never meeting a stranger or refusing to help those in need, David put God, family and country first. He will be sorely missed. His funeral service will be Tuesday evening, September 30, 2008 at 7:00 p.m., at Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church in Townsend, TN where he had been an active member for five years and was President of the United Methodist Men's Association and the Great Smokey Mountain Emmaus Community. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Family and friends will assemble at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church Cemetery for the interment. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, 865-983-1000.
