David Tex Hill was born in July of 1945, 1 of 8 children to Dave Hill and Elsie “Ella” Anderson Hill. He was raised on a farm on Big Gully Road in Maryville, TN, receiving his primary and secondary education at Lanier School. In the 1960’s he worked briefly at the Alcoa Aluminum plant, attended Hiwassee College and the University of TN Knoxville, worked in Chicago, IL briefly, and was drafted during the Vietnam War where he joined the paratrooper division. David married twice in his life, the first to Diane Kelsey and would later marry Debra Sue Arden. He fathered 3 sons, David Tex Edmonds, David Matthew Hill, and Daniel Terrance Hill (deceased) as well as 1 daughter, Dr. Lindsey Nicole Hill. He maintained a close relationship with his siblings, Rex Hill (deceased), Max Hill, Jim Hill (deceased), Margaret “Tootsie” Satterfield, Luther “Luke” Hill, Nell Tipton and Glenda Storie. Tex had an entrepreneurial spirit and juggled numerous careers often simultaneously, including but not limited to: Dairyman, Oldsmobile dealership owner, head of Supra boat company, home and business construction, mogul of amusement machines, Angus beef cattle farmer, operator and dealer of large equipment, excavator, landlord, and a master negotiator. He was also an avid collector of classic cars with a special appreciation for Shelby Mustang and Ford Galaxie models. Tex remodeled his stretch of highway 411 south in Maryville with business locations, most notably the 129 junction. He was blessed with triplet grandchildren, Riley, Harper and Addisyn Edmonds in 2010 and continued to be an inspiring uncle and great uncle to the next Hill generations. Special people in his life at the time of death include, Jennifer Steadman, “old man” Ray, and Bryan Brown, but Tex was a friend and confidant to hundreds in Blount and Loudon counties. At the age of 76, “Boss” was on his way to work with a trusted chihuahua at his feet when he was interrupted by the second stroke that would ultimately end his remarkable life. Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 PM Sunday, March 6, 2022 at Smith Trinity Chapel. Funeral Service to follow at 6:00 PM with Rev. Joey Bivens officiating.
