David Dexter Brown

David Dexter Brown age 59 of Maryville passed away Saturday, March 17, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. David was a member of Oak View Baptist Church. He graduated from Porter High School, Class of 1970 and attended Hiwassee for two years. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving on the USS Orion. David retired from Oak Ridge Y-12 Power Operations as the Department Head of High Voltage Maintenance with 33 years of service. He was also the owner and operator of his own electrical business, David D. Brown Electrical Service and Repair for over 30 years. He was the Vice President of Eagleton Little League and on the Board of Directors for 15 years where he was also a coach for 24 years. David was a strong Christian man and an inspiration to all who knew him. He loved his Lord, Church, family, friends and life in general. He was a loving and giving husband, father, grandfather, son-in-law, brother, uncle and friend. God has taken him from us way too soon, and he will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. Preceded in death by his parents, Mayford Lee Otis and Elaine Smith Brown; grandparents, Earl C. and Ada Cochran Brown, and Charles and Jesse Smith. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 40 years, Sandy Cutshaw Brown; son, Josh Brown (Kelly); daughter, Whitney Brown Cunningham (Nick); son, Sam Brown, all of Maryville; honorary son, Dana Hensley of Hawaii; grandchildren, Zoey and Mason Cunningham and Breah Brown; step grandson, Kade Helton; brother, Earl C. Brown (Jane) of Walland; sisters, Brenda Brown Headrick (Dan) of Townsend and Janie Brown Thomas (David) of Maryville; mother-in-law, Mildred Cutshaw of Walland; sister-in-law, Cindy McGill of Knoxville; aunt, Dot Brown of Georgia; nieces, Dana, Darla, Dianne, Lori and Megan; great niece, Alyssa; great nephews, Cody, Cameron and Scott; special friends, Jim Wyatt, Bill Hughes, Steve and Jill Tipton, Vicki Williamson and the Porter Girls and too many others to mention but you know who you are. Funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2012 in the Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Scott Huffstetler officiating. Interment will be at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 1466 Riverside Drive, Suite D, Chattanooga, TN 37406. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 983-1000.
