Dale Houston Bailey

September 18, 1938 — December 3, 2016

Dale Houston Bailey age 78 of Maryville, passed away Saturday December 3, 2016 at the Life Care Center of Blount County. He is preceded in death by his parents Claude and Jean Bailey, his wife Patsy Carol Bailey, his daughter Rene’ Bailey, sister Mary Nell Hodge, niece Beverly Woodruff, nephews Shannon and Jackie Reagan. He is survived by his sister Jean Delores Pierce and her sons Mike and Mark Pierce, sister and brother-in-law Charlotte and Jack Reagan and their son Mike, sister and brother-in-law Jerry and Geraldine Henegar and their family Sherri, Mandy and Matt. Also surviving was his special nieces Leighann and husband Rob Gratigny, Lisa and husband Scott Graves. Dale loved the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. He hunted and collected many Native American artifacts and his collection is now on display at the Blount County Historical Museum. Dale was a graduate of Friendsville High School and East Tennessee State University. He was an Industrial arts teacher in Knox County and a builder. He built over 30 houses in the Blount county area. He was a member of Dotson memorial Baptist church where he sang in the choir for many years. His dearest friend was Donnie Phelps who spent many hours with him and made his last months lighter. Much appreciation to friends and caregivers, especially Kenneth and Jean Clure, Brenda and Ernie Medlin, Ronnie and Barbara Phelps and a host of other special friends. Many thanks to the staff at Life Care Center of Blount County, especially Pat Haworth, Angie Edwards, Charlotte Burnsmier, Juanita Kaykendall and Alicia Phelps. His funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Monday December 5, 2016 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Funeral and Cremation Service with Larry Best and Dr. Charles Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 pm. Entombment will follow at Grandview Mausoleum after the service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross for Gatlinburg fire relief or the Alzheimer’s Association. Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, Maryville.
