Coy J. Ward of Maryville died Sunday, December 7, 2008 at the Ben Atchley State Veteran's Home. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean D. Ward; daughters Becky Hunter and Nancy Watlington (John F., Jr.); grandchildren Warren and Ryan Hunter, John Watlington III, Julie Subsavad (Lake) and Jesse Watlington; and great grandchildren Haley Hunter, Samantha Hunter, Madison Subsavad, and Athena and Cayla Rodriguez. He was predeceased by infant daughter Melissa Ward, his parents Robert Arthur and Eva Rebecca Ward, 3 brothers and 4 sisters, and several nieces and nephews. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and received two purple hearts. He was employed by Alcoa Aluminum Company and retired after 27 years from Oak Ridge National Laboratory to become a gentleman farmer. He was a member of both Robertsville Baptist Church in Oak Ridge and Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Maryville, and served many years in both nurseries. Receiving of friends will be 6:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2008 in the Smith West Chapel in Maryville with service to follow officiated by Rev. Raymond Burnett. Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 10 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests the nursery departments at either Robertsville or Mt. Lebanon Baptist Churches or the Lottie Moon Christmas offering for foreign missions. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service.
