Lt Col (Ret.) Stan Giles of Louisville, TN, died June 12 of brain cancer. He was born October 30, 1954. Lt Col Giles was ordained in the Evangelical Free Church and served for 30 years as a pastor, and for 27 years as a Chaplain in the Air National Guard. In this capacity he served state-side and abroad in Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Iraq and Antarctica. He recently retired from the 134th Air Refueling Wing at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard base in Knoxville, TN. Shortly before retiring he was diagnosed with brain cancer but received excellent medical care and kindness from the UT hospital, as well as overwhelming support from the 134th family. Sandra, his wife of 39 years, survives him. They met in their college years and married in 1976. They had a great relationship with little sadness but excessive joy. Two wonderful children also survive him: son Scott (Aimee); daughter Shannon Acosta (Hunter); his grandson Jay Giles, and baby Acosta, who is due in October. He is also survived by his father Gerald Giles, three siblings: brother Jerry Giles (Robbie), sister Cheri Giles, and brother Mike Giles (Cheryl); three brother-in-laws: Gary Kahlstorf (Vicki), Dan Kahlstorf (Renita) and Bob Kahlstorf (Cheryl); and several wonderful nephews and nieces. His mother, Jackie Giles, his mother and father in-law, Harold and Faye Kahlstorf, and two brother-in-laws, Jeff and Keith preceded him in death. Years ago he came to faith in Christ and was humbled by the grace and mercy of God. His faith in Christ gave him hope for eternal life and thankfulness for God's grace in his decades of living. He invited everyone reading this to think seriously about his or her own relationship to Jesus Christ. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 18, at the North Campus of Sevier Heights Baptist Church from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. followed by the Memorial Service.
