Clyde McMahan

May 23, 1919 — September 24, 2014

Clyde McMahan received his call to come home September 24, 2014, where he will join his Lord and his beloved wife Lillian. He will be greeted and welcomed by his parents Giles and Ollie McMahan, his brothers Clay, Claude, and Glen as well as his sweet sister Ruby, plus a host of life-long friends. The celebration will be glorious. "Mr. Mac," who was born in Sevier County, but chose Blount County as his home, left this earth at the age of 95 after years of dedication to his church, service to young people, and involvement in the "community" which is Blount County. His educational background at Pitman Center in Sevier County, LMU in Harrogate, and U.T. in Knoxville, plus military experience in the army medical corp prepared him for a life dedicated to helping others. He served as an educator with the county system for more than twenty years. He first taught and coached at Friendsville High School and then became principal at Walland High School. In 1974, he took his leadership and compassion into the office of County Judge. He planned and watched for the county to grow and gain two high school facilities – Heritage and William Blount. He was the last County Judge and the first County Executive (currently County Mayor). Judge Mac never tired of trying to make circumstances better for all involved. His greatest desire was to serve the Lord and encourage someone to achieve more. "Mr. Mac" is survived by daughter Charlotte, nephews Larry and Steve Watson, Glen Jr. and Paul McMahan, Jimmy McMahan, and his niece JoAnn Wagner, as well as their respective spouses, sister-in-law Vivian McMahan, and grandnieces and nephews. His church, St. John United Methodist, his county's students and citizens, and his nation were always in his prayers. Celebration of Life will be at 2:30 PM, Monday, September 29, 2014, at Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Dr. Robert Dalton officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make gifts to Walland Elementary, 247 East Miller's Cove Road, Walland, TN 37886, Heritage High School (Library Fund), 3741 East Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37803 or St. John United Methodist Church, 2201 E. Broadway Ave, Maryville, TN 37804. Family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 PM, Monday, September 29, 2014, at Smith Trinity Chapel. If you met him, you were greeted with a wide smile and a firm handshake. Please share that greeting with those you meet.
