Clarence E. "Rick" Almond

Clarence Edward “Rick” Almond passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 13, 2017. Rick was born June 23, 1927 in Lynchburg, Virginia to the late Eddie Morton “Ned” and Mary Almond. Rick was preceded in death by: daughter, Yvonne Almond Llumbet and the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Jackie Almond, who passed away November 22, 2016. Rick is also preceded in death by his sisters, Dove Almond Bibb, Peggy Almond Lewis, and brother William Hoskins Almond. He is survived by his sister Mae Almond (Warren) Foster and brother Tommy (Doris) Almond, and cousin Betty Launi. Rick is survived by children, Dennis Almond, Dale (Tennie) Almond, Donna (Del) Roberts, David Almond; granddaughter and primary caregiver with David, Christie Wilson. Surviving grandchildren, Heather (Matt) Rucker, Christie (Ricky) Wilson, Lindsey (Allen) Piercy, Brett (Erika) Llumbet, Brad Llumbet, Bridgett (Michael) Williamson, Kelle Almond, Chelsey (Bob) DiDomenico, Andrew Almond, Shane Roberts and Chessa Roberts; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews. Rick also leaves the many, many friends he made during his years of working for and flying all over the country for his beloved Piedmont Airlines. Rick cherished every single second of being a Piedmont Airlines employee. He worked for Piedmont Airlines for 38 years and was a member of the Piedmont Silver Eagles Association enjoying many gatherings until he could no longer attend due to Alzheimer’s. Prior to working for Piedmont Airlines, Rick served the country as a member of the U.S. Army. Family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Smith Trinity Chapel. A celebration of life service will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Tim Kimsey officiating. Family and friends will assemble for interment at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
