Christine Marie Moberly

C. Marie Farmer Moberly, 93, daughter of the late Jessie Ryan and John B. Farmer of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, passed on Friday, September 27, 2013. She had been a resident of Blount County since 1983 after the death of husband, LeRoy Moberly of LaGrange, Illinois. Mrs. Moberly was a descendant of revolutionary war soldier, Jesse Sampley. She graduated cum laude from Middle Tennessee State University where she was elected "Miss Home Economics," an honor based upon scholarship, achievement, and active participation in university activities. She pursued graduate study at American University, Washington, D.C., and completed her M.A. degree at Scarritt College in Nashville. Her career consisted of teaching language arts in junior and senior high schools in Tennessee, Indiana, and Illinois. She was an author of curriculum and other publications for the Methodist Publishing House, Nashville. During World War II, she was on staff of the American Red Cross at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. She loved the Smoky Mountains and was active in garden clubs and a member of the Foothills Land Conservancy. Immediate survivors are daughter, Deborah Kent Moberly Schriver, son-in-law, Robert Holt Schriver III, and granddaughter Kate Ryan Schriver, all of Knoxville. A private memorial service will be held. Memorials may be made to Scarritt-Bennett Center, the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, Foothills Land Conservancy, or to a charity of choice.
