Charles Clayton Bennett

Charles Clayton Bennett, age 86 of Maryville, passed away peacefully on Saturday May 13, 2023 at NHC Oak Ridge. Clayton, the oldest of 10 children, was born to the late Orban and Ruby Bennett on April 24, 1937 in Madisonville, TN. He was a veteran of The United States Air Force and the TN Air National Guard. In addition, he worked many years in the finance business. After retirement, Clayton operated an in-home golf business. Many local golfers will remember him as the “Tennessee Golf Doc”. Besides golfing, he enjoyed dancing, flea markets, and spending time with family. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Anne “Jud” Bennett; brothers, Don, Robert and Gene; sisters, Freda Condry and Brenda Vineyard. Clayton is survived by his son, Alan (Starla) Bennett of Knoxville, TN; stepdaughters, Gay Ann Williams of Cave Creek, AZ, Jada Williams of Memphis, TN; grandchildren, Daisy Bennett and McCarran Hazlett; sisters, Becky (Joe) Reagan and Henrietta Daugherty; brothers, Carl (Peggy) Bennett and David Bennett; as well as many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to his niece and caretaker Missy Hurst. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Friday, May 19, 2023 at Smith Trinity Chapel. The Funeral Service will follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Nolan Carpenter officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 3:00 PM Sunday, May 21, 2023 for Interment at Grandview Cemetery.
