Charles F. Alexander Jr. (Chuck) passed away on November 6, 2023.

Chuck was born on January 10, 1945 in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and then received his master’s degree in landscape architecture from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Chuck began his career in landscape architecture at Edward Stone, Jr. & Associates in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where he was a partner. In 1977, Chuck and his family moved to Maryville, Tennessee, where he co-founded Hickory Construction and served as Executive Vice President until his retirement in 2015.

Chuck felt strongly about giving back and serving his community. He was an active participant in several community organizations and non-profits, including the Home Builders Association (past President and served on Board of Directors); Blount County Historic Trust (served on Board of Directors); Blount County Chamber of Commerce (past Chairman and served on Board of Directors); Industrial Development Board of Blount County and the cities of Alcoa & Maryville (past Chair/JOC Representative and served on Board of Directors); First Tennessee Bank (past Chair and served on Board of Directors); Area Wide Development Corporation (served on Board of Directors); Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center (served on Board of Directors); and was a member of the inaugural class of Leadership Blount in 1991.

Chuck had a passion for life, his family and his friends. He had the amazing ability to make people feel special, and he served as a mentor to countless people over the years. He was an excellent storyteller and made everyone laugh. He loved bird hunting with his dogs and sons, both here in East Tennessee and in North Dakota. He also loved the low country of South Carolina and spent much time there with family and friends.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna Alexander; his sons and daughter-in-law, Matt and Christy Alexander and Josh Alexander; and his four grandchildren, Emma, Matthew, Maya and Noah Alexander. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Sylvia Alexander and his brother Daniel Alexander.
