Charla Jean (Herrin) Lambdin age 85 of Maryville passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014. She was a long-time member of Alcoa First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by: Parents, Charles Edward & Stella Mae (Cox) Herrin; Son, Laren Timothy Lambdin; Sisters, Coralee Herrin & Juanita (Herrin) Leger; Brother-in-law, Herman Leger. She is survived by: Husband of 63 years, Foraker (Buck) Lambdin; Daughter & Son-in-law, Karen Kimberly Whaley and Russell (Rusty) Whaley; Grandchildren, Kimberly Lynn Whaley & Kylie Leanne Whaley of Maryville; numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Charla Jean was born at Kettle Island, Bell County Kentucky and graduated from Bell County High School. She attended Lincoln Memorial University and graduated from the University of Tennessee. She taught school in the Blount County system primarily at Porter and William Blount High Schools. She was very active in her church, Delta Kappa Gamma Society and the Chilhowee Club where she enjoyed being involved in the ESO book club and the Drama Group. She also enjoyed the "Lunch Bunch" outing and Believers Group activities with church friends, doing water aerobics and line dancing at her athletic club, dining with The Retired Teachers and, the very special group of friends known as the "Party of the Month Group". She also enjoyed traveling with her husband. Together, they visited 45 countries, all 50 states, all the provinces of Canada and states of Mexico and Australia, forming lifelong friendships with fellow travelers. They made seven lengthy trips to Australia visiting their special friends, Glyn & Shirlee Graham and their family. She was a gospel and jazz enthusiast and went to many concerts and festivals throughout the country. She was a Lady Vol supporter and season ticket holder for many sports. Funeral service will be at 7:00 PM, Friday, September 19, 2014 at Smith West Chapel with Rev. Freeman Tomlin officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 3:00 PM, Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the interment with Rev. Henry Linginfelter officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: Alcoa First Baptist Church, 819 Gilbert Street, Alcoa, TN 37701.
