Carrie Kaye Smith, age 72, passed away at her home on November 15, 2024 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. She endured months of treatment and severe pain in her determination to beat this horrible disease and she fought hard till the very last minute.
She leaves to mourn her passing husband David who loyally cared for her night and day in her final weeks, daughter Katrina Marie, grandchildren Oliver and David, sisters Martha {Marty} Kitts and husband Michael, Ella and husband Ralph Cole, who we lost in 2017, brothers Bobby {Skeet} and wife Sue Cummings, Charles (Chuck) and Gina Welch, and Alex Welch and very special friend Gayla Smith who was a tremendous help and comfort to the family and who made this journey a little easier for us all and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by daughter Elissa Nichols, mother Josephine Surgenor Welch, father Boyd Tinnell, stepfather Bobby Cummings, and grandparents Alex and Rhetta Surgenor.
Carrie and husband David lovingly opened their home to several foster children during their marriage working through Omni Visions Foster care program. One of those children , Katrina Marie, became their forever daughter who gave Carrie the grandchildren she so desperately wanted.
A remembrance of Carrie will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Grandview Cemetery 2304 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville TN 37803 with Pastor Charlie Reynolds officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests any donations be made to Omni Visions Foster Care 4709 Papermill Drive, Ste. 103 Knoxville, TN 37909.
A heartfelt thank you to Amedisys Hospice for their care and assistance during this difficult time. A special thank you to one of her care-givers Anna Marie Guiliano-Randolph whose compassionate care for Carrie and love shown to the family can never be expressed in words.
