Carol Ann (Catropa) Waldroop passed away peacefully at her home in Maryville surrounded by family on Sunday, May 14, 2023.
She was born in Amityville, New York on November 26, 1955 to parents Ferdie Catropa and Anna Lobdell, and spent much of her childhood in Fletcher, North Carolina with her beloved grandmother, Elsie Humphrey. Carol married Edward (Ed) Waldroop on July 19, 1974, in Hendersonville, North Carolina, and together they had two children, Jeremy and Alisha.
After working for many years in banking, she became an entrepreneur, founding or co-founding and operating businesses such as Waldo’s Candies, 1-800 Selling, and Personal Computer Systems, Inc. (PCS). She was a strong woman with strong opinions and a stronger work ethic, and she took pride in creating a family atmosphere in these companies.
When she was not working, she enjoyed traveling, playing tennis and bridge, decorating and entertaining for holidays, cooking fabulous meals, and spending time with family and friends. Carol was quick to lend a helping hand and was loved and admired by many. She will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband, Ed; children, Jeremy (Debbi) and Alisha Stanley (Randy); and granddaughters, Ellie and Sadie Stanley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to New Hope Blount County Children’s Advocacy Center (blountkids.org), an organization close to Carol’s heart. Friends are invited to join the family for a drop-in reception at Grandview Pavilion (2316 Graves Rd, Maryville) on Sunday, May 21, 2023 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithFuneralandCremation.com
