Billie Darlene Mays

Billie Darlene Mays, age 76 of Maryville, TN passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022 at UT Medical Center with her two daughters at her side. Billie was born on December 12, 1945 in Zanesville, Ohio to William F. & Regis A. “Peg” Bee.  She graduated from Everett High School and retired from Blount County Schools where she was the “friendly cafeteria cashier” to thousands of middle and high school students. Billie also found joy rocking and taking care of many babies and toddlers over the years while she worked at Radiant Life Child Care Center and Broadway Baptist Church. She was known for her smile, her stubbornness & her ability to make her friends and co-workers laugh. Billie, who was proud to be given the name “Oohwah” by her grandchildren, enjoyed the Fall leaves of the Tennessee mountains, baking Christmas cookies, maple donuts from Dunkin, Strawberry Limeades from Sonic, and spending time making lifelong memories with her family.  She was preceded in death by her parents & grandson, Bailey Burchfield, along with her son-in-law, Doug Sutton. Billie is survived by her loving daughters, Heather Kent (Troy), and Holly Dotson (Steve); grandchildren, Zach Sutton (Haley), Gabby Retamoza (Tim), Cole Dotson, Wyatt Kent, and Tatum Dotson; great-grandchildren, Hudson Retamoza and Stella Sutton; sister, Ginger Waters (Ed), and several nieces and nephews.
