Betty Cox Pate, 84, died suddenly July 26, 2008 at her home in Maryville. She was born in Bell County, KY but grew up in Knoxville where she met and married Frank Pate and they settled in Alcoa where Betty has lived for more than 50 years. She was long-time member of First United Methodist Church of Alcoa. Betty was officer manager for Drs. Peterson, Nelson and Proffit in Maryville for 20 years. She was an avid bridge player and lacked only a few points for her Life Master Gold card. Preceded in death by: Mother, Fairy Bayless; Husband, Frank Pate; Son, Mark Andrew Pate; Sister, Helen McGill; Brother Governeur Bayless. Survivors include: Son, Bill Pate & wife Jenny of Springfield, VA; Granddaughter, Keely Pate of Houston, TX; Sisters, Marion Bayless and Anna Lee Cox & husband Bill all of Knoxville; Brothers, Jay Bayless & wife Bonnie of Knoxville, Gordon Bayless & wife Vicky of DeSoto, TX; nieces, Cathie Faust & husband John & daughter Elizabeth of Kingsport, Janie Richard & daughter Christy of Knoxville, Robin Bayless of Atlanta, Debbie Rockett, Valerie Herman and Beverly Clark of the Dallas, TX area; nephews, Gary Bayless of Knoxville, Harold Ammons II, Allen Ammons, Shawn Ammons of Louisville, Zoe Ann Ammons, and Tana Rudder of Knoxville, Brett Pate of Oak Ridge and Brook Pate of Maryville; several grand nieces and nephews. Also special friends, Sue Swann, Frances Everett, and Mildred Reynolds of Maryville, and Julia Cobb Freer of Knoxville. Family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 PM, Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Smith Trinity Chapel. Memorial service will follow at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. Joe Green officiating.
