Berton “Mell” Bishop, Jr., age 81, of Turtletown, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at home surrounded by his loved ones. A member of Farner Presbyterian Church, he was a man of God and a man who loved his wife, Joy Bishop, and his family deeply. Born and raised in Archer, FL, he attended the Florida Highway Patrol 27th Recruit Training School in 1965 and had a long and successful career in law enforcement before retiring in 1997 from Lake County Sherriff’s Office and those who knew him, knew that it wasn’t just a job for him, but who he was. In his later years, he enjoyed traveling with Joy, spending time with his family every chance he got and spoiling his dogs. He was preceded in death by his father, Berton Mell Bishop, Sr.; Mother, Myrla Bishop; Son, Bruce Bishop; Son, Thomas Bishop. Survivors include his beloved wife of 50 years, Joy Bishop; daughter and son-in-law, Nissa Williams and Joe; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Musgrove and James; daughter, Melanie Wells; Grandchildren, Ava, Jessica, Thomas, Courtney, Kaitlyn, Chandler, Samantha and Matthew and 13 great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at Farner Presbyterian Cemetery on June 2, 2024 at 3:00 pm.
