LTC Benjamin M. Sugg Jr. US Army (ret'd) completed this portion of his soul's journey peacefully at home on Wednesday evening, February 2nd surrounded by family. The son of Benjamin Sugg Sr. and Margaret (nee Caroon) Sugg, he grew up in Kinston, NC. He was a proud graduate of Edwards Military Institute in Salemburg and an even prouder alumnus of the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University. Benjamin enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 1961 and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant prior to accepting commission, afterward rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel from which he retired. Throughout his career, his respect, affection and appreciation for enlisted personnel was a constant. He often remarked that though he didn't care to repeat them, he wouldn't trade his years of enlisted service for anything; and frequently counseled junior officers that one of the smartest things they could do would be to surround themselves with quality NCOs. Benjamin is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bonny Kate. He is also survived by son Benjamin III and partner Shawn; sister Margaret Anne Sugg of Raleigh, NC; and beloved grandchildren Avery Grace and Brendan Douglas. Interment service will be held on Tuesday, February 8th at 1:00 PM in the Pavilion at Grandview Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the Pavilion following the service.
