Barbara Diann Wolford

Barbara “Diann” Wolford, 75, originally from Clarksburg, West Virginia, passed away on August 24, 2019 at her home in Maryville, Tennessee. Diann was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia to Jack Richard Whitney and Barbara Lucille Whitney (Jarrett) on July 3, 1944. She graduated from Roosevelt-Wilson high school in Clarksburg and later earned her bachelor’s degree in education at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. Diann spent her teaching career at Rock Hill High School in Ironton, Ohio. She spoke often of her teaching years at Rock Hill and the close relationships she had with fellow teachers, administrators and of course, her beloved students – many of which she remained in close contact with up until her death. Diann was an avid reader and loved to learn but she also had a passion for European culture having made several trips throughout Europe with her French and Spanish students at Rock Hill. Diann had a wonderful sense of humor and was a trusted friend to many. She was a member at East Clarksburg Baptist Church in Clarksburg, West Virginia and often attended a bible study at First United Methodist Church of Maryville where she developed a small group of dear friends. Diann is preceded in death by her father, Jack Richard Whitney, mother Barbara Lucille Whitney (Jarrett) and brother Jack Richard “Dick” Whitney II. She is survived by her son Christopher Wolford, his wife Lisa Wolford and grandchildren Cameron Wolford, Blair Wolford and Karly Wolford all of Maryville, Tennessee. She will also be missed by her closest friends Delma McComis, Karen Hensen, Dorothy Turner, Lou Jarboe and her dedicated caregiver, Debbie O’Neal. Visitation will be held between 5:00 and 7:00 pm, Friday, August 30, 2019 in the Trinity Chapel at Smith’s Mortuary in Maryville. A memorial service led by Rev.
