B. Lehmazell Greenwood

B. Lehmazell Greenwood , 81, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Blount County Memorial Hospital in Maryville, Tennessee. Family and friends visited at bedside as she had been hospitalized for weeks with a number of issues following years of facing aggressive rheumatoid arthritis. Born May 22, 1929 in Swifton, Arkansas, Lehmazell lived the majority of her life growing family and friends throughout Arkansas where husband, Sonny's career with Southwestern Bell Telephone carried them; most predominantly in Jonesboro and Little Rock. Married for 60 years, their courtship began at what later became Arkansas State University. Sonny, an athlete and mathematics major, could scarce resist the charms of Lemon the cheerleader as well as the original Dream Girl of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Immediately following college she was a popular school teacher but her primary vocation became mother and wife. Lehmazell made friends in every setting. Her smile and personality engaged all. She loved a gathering and the chance to be part of the entertainment in song. You found her with family, friends or in the midst of a church meeting or community endeavor. She was always a giver of care and love. Those in need of encouragement or worthy of congratulation could expect that Hallmark Card with her signature stickers. Her treasure was in her family and friends. She shared much with many and by this count, she was wealthy and will be remembered with a smile and a warmth of heart. In the mid 1990's, Mr. and Mrs. Greenwood transitioned to Maryville, Tennessee to be near children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Sonny B.; children, Terry D. Greenwood of Charlotte, North Carolina; Beth Eason Howard and her husband Ian, of Knoxville; grandchildren, Lindsay Paige Greenwood and Chase Jackson Greenwood of Charlotte; Amelia Grace Eason and Savannah Jane Eason of Knoxville. Lehmazell is now at peace. Her spirit of cheerfulness and love will continue to be shared within those she touched. Family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m., Thursday, March 31, 2011 with funeral services at 3:00 p.m., at Smith Trinity Chapel in Maryville. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
