Ann Bennett, age 85, of Maryville, Tennessee, passed away on May 16, 2018. Ann died following a long battle with lung and heart disease. Ann was born on February 15, 1933, at her parents' home in Maryville. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ida and Bill Allen, and her sisters Louise Tindell, Trula Hall, and Joyce Carroll. Ann attended Everett High School, and dropped out of school to work full time to help her family. She was proud of obtaining her GED in 1971, and she always emphasized the importance of education to her children and family. Ann is survived by her husband Clayton Bennett. During their 57 years of marriage, they loved to travel and entertain family and friends. Ann was the consummate performer, and her ability to memorize and dramatically recite poetry will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to be in her audience. Ann's boisterous laugh and love of a good joke were her trademarks. Ann and Clayton have spent their lives in sales. Ann was employed at Kresge in Alcoa, followed by years at Dales and Gateway furniture stores. Clayton is known throughout the region as the "Golf Doc" and Ann and Clayton have had many people pass through their homes and lives in their professions. Ann is also survived by her children, Gay Ann Williams of Phoenix, Arizona; Jada Williams of Memphis, Tennessee; and Alan Bennett of Maryville, Tennessee. Ann also has two grandchildren who were the shining lights of her life, McCarran Hazlett and Daisy Bennett. She is also survived by her sister Ernestine Owen of Santa Barbara, California. Her nieces and nephews and their children were loved by Ann as though they were her own. Ann loved receiving cards and knowing her friends and family were thinking of her. In lieu of flowers, please bring a card with a personal note to the visitation at Smith Trinity Chapel on Friday, May 18, 2018. Cards will also be provided at the visitation. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Friday, May 18, 2017 at Smith Trinity Chapel. Memorial service will be at 7:00 PM.
