Alvin Paul (“Yogi”) Shaver, age 80, passed away at his home in Alcoa surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 5, 2017 after a nine year bout with cancer. He was born on March 5, 1937 in White Pine, Tennessee to Paul and Charlcie (Britt) Shaver. To all his acquaintances, friends and colleagues he was better known as “Yogi”. Yogi graduated from Porter High School in 1956. On December 24, 1958, he married Shirley Duana Holbert. Together, they had three children. Yogi was a local businessman who owned and operated Parkway Farms and Nursery for more than twenty years. Prior to that, he worked in the automobile business for over forty years chiefly as sales manager and a long-time employee at Delmar Haynes Pontiac, Inc. Yogi’s special interest and hobbies included family get-togethers, good old-fashioned horse trading, collecting and restoring antique automobiles, and hobby farming. Some of his favorite times included visiting with his grandchildren; planning, preparing and enjoying holiday meals while spending time with his family and loved ones. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Duana; sons, Terry (Mary) and Kyle; daughter, Melissa Mott (Darryl); grandchildren, Darryl Jeffrey Mott, Jr (“DJ”) and Lance Mott; sister, Shirley Morgan Roughton; brother-in-law, Herkless Holbert (Doris); sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Forrester; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister Betty Hull. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 6:00 pm at Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, 1402 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville, Tennessee 37803. The family will receive friends before the ceremony from 5:00 – 6:00 pm.
