Albert C. Hinger, Jr.

Albert C. Hinger passed on to his Heavenly Reward on February 8, 2010 in Maryville, Tennessee. Al was born October 27, 1926 in Tamaqua, PA to Pauline and Albert C. Hinger. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Robert. Al served in the Air Force in WWII. After discharge in 1945, he was employed as a salesman and supervisor with Spaulding Bakeries in Hazelton, PA. In 1956, at the age of 29, Al suffered a massive heart attack. After a long recovery, he enrolled at Penn State University Hazelton Campus, where he graduated Cum Laude in 1959. He worked as a Senior Hydrodynamic Aide at ARL on Penn States Main Campus until his retirement in July of 1986. Al was a member of The American Legion and the Knights of Columbus where he was a Fourth Degree Knight as well as Grand Knight. He was the main mover in establishing a Knights of Columbus Hall as well as a Day Care Center on Stratford Drive, State College, and was involved in prison visitation at Rockview Correctional Facility. Al was an active member of Our Lady of Victory Church, State College PA, where he was on the building committee and served as a Eucharistic Minister and Reader. He was a volunteer with the Centre County Youth Services Bureau until the Bureau reached the point where workers could be paid. In 2005, Al and Kate moved to Maryville, TN where he and Kate were active in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Alcoa, TN. Al was a man of great courage and steadfast energy, a positive thinker with unfailingly high principles, who was always true to his wife, his family and his church. . He is survived by his wife, Catherine (Kate) Filoreto Hinger whom he married July 5, 1948 in Hazelton, PA. Together they had four children, Paula M. Parson of Knoxville, TN; Carol J. Wengerd of Salisbury, PA; Robert of Charlotte, NC; and Joseph of Houston, TX. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, a brother, Carl, and sisters, Marie DiMaria and Jean DeLorenzo. Viewing will be from 1:00-3:00 PM, Friday, February 12 at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Alcoa, TN. The Funeral Mass, celebrated by Father Patrick Resen, will follow.
