Alan Myers, age 78, died unexpectedly from complications of Parkinson’s Disease on Monday, April 8. Alan was born in Wausau, WI and moved to Maryville, TN when he was 9. He was athletic, and he also loved to read, saying he learned to read from comic books. Alan never met a challenge he wasn’t ready to tackle. He served in the army and enjoyed his time stationed in Europe. He had a lifelong love for cars, passing that love on to his son. Alan found his calling as a crane operator. He loved and was very skilled at operating any crane that he encountered, finding his final employment with TVA. Alan was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers starting with Local 926 in 1972 and most recently Local 917. He also managed 200 acres of farmland with good friend and business partner John Kenst, later managed with his son Alan Jr. starting in 2005.
Alan loved his simple life on his farm in Greenback, but there was no love that matched his love for his children.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Emily Myers which left an unfillable hole in his heart, by his parents Lowell and Jean Myers, and by his beloved rescue dog, Moose.
Alan is survived by his son, Alan Myers, Jr., daughter Erin Schultz, grandchildren Alan Myers III, Eric McLean, Rosemary Stauffer (Sydney), Chloe Schultz, and Brie Schultz. He is also survived by brother Don Myers (Vikki) and sister Kathleen Hammontree (Terry).
